"Mercedes Streeter" (smart)
03/09/2018 at 11:25 • Filed to: Smart, unnecessary car shopping with mercedes, Miss Mercedes smart Car Girl | 8 | 44 |
Update: Because low cost carriers do not fly this route, I had to take United at $232 for March 24th. I missed the last $180 seat by a hair. I’ll arrive at PIT at 10:13 Eastern and should hopefully have the car by Noon.
I also received the title yesterday and noticed something funny. He sold me the car quoting that it has 50,000 miles. But the title says it only has 31,000 miles. I asked him about it and learned that this car did not have its odometer changed to read in miles. So it actually has 31,000 miles! He just accidentally wrote “mi” instead of “km” the first time.
I’ll get to fly on one of those adorable Embraer ERJ- 175s!
Original Post:
My route has been set! The date for picking up the car is either March 17th or March 24th. I’d do it this weekend if airfare to Pittsburgh weren’t so insane in price. The lowest price ticket is a ride on United..
If any Oppos along this route, the alternate routes, or really just anywhere not 500+ miles off course want to meet up, I’m open to that!
So...if you were wondering why I only have one pic of the smart I bought, it’s because I only have one. My beloved Chelsea went about the same way. I kinda like the mystery of “sight unseen”.
Update from the former owner is that he’s replaced the battery in both the car and the key fob, got the roof working (was malfunctioning due to a bad battery in the car) and once he replaces the front left tyre it’ll be more than ready to race back to IL.

I’ve never paid more than $90 for a plane ticket, and that was a four hour flight! xD I tend to get the lowest-priced ticket on the worst airline and bring nothing but my purse.

how many times has that airline been Spirit?
and if more than one, are you ok talking about it yet? or are you still processing the trauma?

Depending on when you’re headed through time wise I can offer a walk through the USAF museum.
One of my A&P instructors worked on the ground crew of the B-52 they have on display. I can point out where the patches from enemy fire are located.

Only once! And...it actually wasn’t that bad. If you don’t bring anything with you, Spirit isn’t that bad at all aside from questionable legroom.
Frontier has to be my favourite so far. I still adore Fallon The Falcon. Still the best flight I’ve ever taken.

i’m on the tall side, so that is an issue. but the one time i tried to use them the real problem was the thrice delayed flight simply being canceled, making me find other means of travel.

thats a good looking plane, and while i am typically a virgin sorta guy, tomorrow i’m flying alaska for the first time. according to my ticket, that’s a boeing 737-800 (738) slimline which may look a little like this:
i had the company pony up for “standard premium” seating for that sweet extra 4 inches of legroom.

Yeah...I forget Spirit’s also pretty hit and miss with being anywhere close to on time.
I have to say, I still love Alaska’s livery the most. I don’t know why, just I always smile seeing one of their planes.

Dive via Dayton! Visit the Air Force Museum! I don’t recall if they have any tri-jets, but they have this which is like two tri-jets put together:
Also a bunch of other stuff.

I live in Pittsburgh very close to the gray line. If you take that route I would like to meet up. I have not met an irl Oppo before. We can get burgers from Burgatory and you can show off the new convertible.

That’s what I figure. If it looks like it’ll work time wise let me know.
I doubt you’ll have time to catch everything, but pick out anything you’d be most interested in, and I can figure out a way to hit as much as possible.

1) Watch out for potholes. They are all over the goddam place, and yuuuuge on top of that. They have been patched, poorly, leading to some potholes-in-potholes (potholeceptions?), and other road imperfections that will launch a small car. Seriously, the roads are awful.
2) If you head a bit north, you can drive on Route 666. It’s at the bottom of the green splotch on the map for Allegheny National Forest. Make sure you get a pic of your car near one of the signs, and play lots of Iron Maiden at excessive volume.
3) Get a Primanti’s sandwich. They are nearly the size of the potholes.

This is the more viable take on my friends joke of a one-time-use drag sleeper—back around 2000 or so when some Kia dealerships offered to throw in a Rio for free when you bought a Sorento (or something) we joked about conning someone out of the free Rio and just filling it to the gills with “sneaky Pete” nitrous bottles. Under the seats? Sneaky Petes. In place of the shocks? More sneaky Petes. The trunk; just wall-to-wall sneaky Petes. I mean, sure, you’d get more volume from a couple of massive bottles rather than the same space filled by dozens of small ones, but imagine how intimidating it’d be at a drag strip to stage next to a guy that pops his trunk and someone spends three solid minutes opening the valves... Then you rip one pass and I’m sure the engine explodes.
And you junk the car because it’s a 2000 Rio.

Yeah, if you’re coming from out of town you almost need a full day or two to be able to take it all in.
It was worse before the fourth building opened. The presidential/experimental section used to be in a hanger on base, and the time slots for the bus to get there would fill up fast.
If you’re at all close they have an event this September called “Dawn Patrol” where owners and museums bring in WW1 airplane replicas to do demonstrations. There’s a museum in Pennsylvania that brings a Fokker DR-1 that is the last known running example of WW1 fighter in the world. They used to actually fly it, but now they do engine runs with it.
